Newborn Allowance

If you are expecting a child, you can get money for baby supplies and a crib. In order to get it, you have to intend to keep the child and ask for it between one month before your due date and three months after the baby is born (or adopted).

This money is not paid out in all cities.

In Toronto, you get $100 for clothes and supplies and $260 for a crib. If you got money for a crib before and the first child is older, you will not get the money again.

Some workers have been telling people that they have to see the baby or that they won’t issue it before the birth because the baby could be born stillborn. This is disgusting. They can and should issue it before the baby is born if you ask for it. If you get hassled or have your worker say awful things to you, call OCAP.
