How To Apply
Applying for Welfare - Getting on Ontario Works or OW is a two part process. First, you have to call the intake line and do a phone interview. Then, you have to go into the office and answer the same questions again and sign a bunch of forms. If you have little or no money and no assets, you should qualify, even if you don't have an address. It takes about two weeks before you get your first cheque but it is back dated to you phone intake. The sooner you apply, the better off you will be.

Refusing to Accept Applications – Ontario Works is not legally allowed to refuse an application for assistance. If this happens, talk to a supervisor. If they still won’t accept your application, call your local legal clinic or, in Toronto, call OCAP.
