Disability Action
OCAP will be joining the Disability Action at MacDonald Block on its way to Queen's Park. If you have difficulty walking, need ASL interpretation or want to go there first click here.
On Wednesday, September 26, a broad coalition of community organizations, trade unions, health providers and low income people will be challenging Queen's Park to increase social assistance, raise the minimum wage and build affordable/social housing.
There will be a rally at the Ontario Legislature under the name of ˜Toronto Anti Poverty". Many of the organizations participating in the event, will hold their own actions on that day before marching on the Legislature for the united event.
OCAP welcomes the fact that so many different kinds of people are taking a stand against poverty. We want to make sure that our members and supporters are at the forefront of building and participating in the marches and rally on September 26. There is a crying need for such action. Welfare and disability rates have lost 40% of their real value, the minimum wage is still at sub poverty levels and the lack of decent housing in this City is a shame and a disgrace. We want to hold this Government and those who might follow them accountable.
On September 26, OCAP will be mobilizing people in poor communities throughout the City to March under our banner and bring an angry message to the Provincial Government. We want to take a strong stand on the day that takes forward our demands and the building of a poor people's movement in this City that can fight for a decent future from those who would leave us in poverty.
***HELP*** we have been looking for an ASL interpreter for a very long time now and haven't been able to find one. If you can interpret or know someone who can, please call 416-997-1562.
