Glasses and Eye Tests
Eye exams are covered for people on assistance once every 2 years for adults (covered by OHIP for kids).
Glasses for Adults: This is a discretionary benefit so it depends where you live. In Toronto, If you need glasses, welfare has to cover the cost, but you'll need a prescription that's less than 6 months old. If you get a prescription, you should be sure to get glasses through welfare within 6 months – otherwise you won't be able to get them until your next eye exam 2 years later.
Glasses for Kids: This is covered throughout Ontario. It includes new frames or lenses every 3 years (which is ridiculous for growing kids!), repairs and replacements for loss or damage. This is a mandatory benefit
