Dental
Adults: Dental coverage is discretionary. That means that it depends on the city you live in whether or not you can get any coverage. If you have a dental emergency and you live in a town that does not pay for dental through OW, go to the emergency room because it is paid for by OHIP.
In Toronto, here is an emergency dental program in place for adults on welfare. They define emergency as "an immediate circumstance where the patient appears in immediate suffering, requires care and immediate appropriate treatment is instituted to correct the problem". Dentists have a booklet that tell them what they can and cannot do so tell them to check if it is covered before they do anything. To get dental, take your Drug Card into the dentist. If you need to get drugs with the card also, tell them to take a copy and give you the original or get a stamped copy from your pharmacy.
Children: No mater where you live, your children (0-17yrs) must get dental coverage if you are on assistance. Dentists have a booklet that tell them what they can and cannot do so tell them to check if it is covered before they do anything. Dental for kids is manditory.
